The mountain
Grey Fang is what it sounds like — a chipped fang of grey rock, 3,988 metres, that sits alone at the head of the cirque. First light hits it an hour before the rest of the range.
The standard route
approach 1 day, steep but short route NW arete, grade III+, 700 m crux the Fang step, a single 5.7 move descent down the east face gullies
When to go
June through October. It's a one-day push for fit parties, which makes it the busiest summit in the range — go mid-week.
